Local Information
Cartagena, a city of history and legends, washed by the Caribbean Sea, is exceptional due to the architectural ensemble it preserves. Its streets and squares are admirable under the shadow of the wooden balconies hanging from the colonial houses and the eclectic “Republican” style of the past century.
The city was founded in 1533 by Don Pedro de Heredia; the town was fortified during the 17th and 18th centuries with solid walls and castles to defend it from pirates and enemy armies seeking to loot the city’s treasures.
In 1984, UNESCO included the “Harbor, Fortress, and Monumental site of Cartagena de Indias” in the World Heritage List.
The visit to the city becomes magical with its many monuments and beautiful people. Cartagena yesterday, today and forever is joyful, festive, and welcoming.
Cartagena has an average temperature of 28 °C.
