Societies of Materials
The IBEROMET 2004 meeting held in Quito, Ecuador agreed on a proposal by the President of the Spanish Society of Materials, SEMAT, to constitute a Federal Association of Iberian-American Societies of Materials.
One of the key objectives was the promotion and coordination of activities among its members; another was to encourage the formation of a society in those countries that had not existed, and also sought to facilitate contact between workers in the field Americans of material with that of European companies taking advantage of the circumstance of dual membership of the Federation of European Materials Societies of Spain and Portugal.
It instructed the proponent the legal constitution of the Society so that they could make their formal presentation at the next edition of IBERMET in Havana from 9 to 13 October 2006. Under this order, the legal constitution of the association has occurred in year 2006 has been appointed provisionally and for legal reasons only a Board of Directors.
It has come to realize the three associations and professionals who were interested in this regard. Some, as well as some professionals from countries where there is no Materials Society, have applied for membership to the Federal Association.
The next goal is that at the meeting IBEROMET of Havana there are sufficient representatives of the member companies to form the Governing Board elected to launch the activities of the association.
In the recent Congress of the SEMAT, occurred in Vigo, Spain, on 20-22 June, realized all this informal, although the official presentation of the Federal Association will be held in Havana during the days IBEROMET, such and as planned.
It invites all Iberian-American Materials Societies to join as full members of the association so that we can formally begin the planned activity. The work that lies ahead is far and the sooner we start sooner opportunity to see its fruits.
